Officers Line Overpasses To Support Injured Deputy [VIDEO]
A Buchanan County sheriff's deputy, seriously injured in a weekend accident involving a pursuit, continues to recover.
Deputy Daniel Walter was transferred from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center Wednesday to begin rehabilitation and physical therapy. Law Enforcement officers and firefighters from multiple agencies lined the overpasses along U.S. Highway 20 in a show of support as Buchanan County deputies escorted the ambulance transporting Walter between hospitals.
The 23-year-old Walter, of Independence, was hurt Saturday when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle south of Lamont. The other driver, 29-year-old Kevin Krapfl, Jr., of Manchester, was being pursued by authorities after allegedly hitting a pedestrian in Oelwein and failing to stop.
Sheriff's officials said charges are pending in the pursuit. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
