Names Released In Dubuque County Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

According to authorities, individuals involved in a fatal crash Sunday in Dubuque County near Cascade have been identified. Ben H. Nelson, 59, of Des Moines, Iowa, died from injuries sustained in the head-on collision crash, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
In addition, Yolanda J. Brown, 40, of Des Moines, was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment, according to the report. Three others were taken to Dubuque hospitals by ambulance for treatment: Laura D. Brinez Camacho, 24, of Dubuque; Jorge B. Alsina, 18, from Spain; and Giovanne Bazzanella, 17, from Italy.

Iowa State Patrol has released a statement in regard to a death, and four injured in a wrong-way vehicle accident in Dubuque County along Highway 151 by Cascade on Sunday night (8/13).
On August 13th around 11:30pm the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office along with Iowa State Patrol, Peosta Police Department, Cascade Police Department, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Cascade Fire & EMS, Bi County EMS, Farley EMS, Epworth EMS, and Bernard EMS, responded to Highway 151 and Gehl Lane for a two-vehicle accident with injuries. State Patrol said a 2009 Cadillac DTS, was driven by Nelson southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 151 when it collided head-on with a 2020 Kia Forte near Gehl Lane.
Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Another subject was flown to Iowa City by Air Care with serious injuries. Three other subjects were transported by EMS to local hospitals with serious injuries. Iowa DOT reported that both lanes of traffic were shut down momentarily while dealing with the emergency. The accident happens at a time where the Southbound Lane of 151 is under some road work leading to a single lane of travel in the area.
The names of those involved in the accident will be released by the Iowa State Patrol at a later time pending family notifications. The Iowa State Patrol is handling this ongoing investigation. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division is a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation. The road patrol is responsible for enforcing the Iowa Motor Vehicle Laws, responding to calls including; accidents, assaults, burglaries, civil issues, fires, & thefts.
