One Iowa Woman Could Break Barriers as Miss USA
One Iowa City resident might be making history at one of the country's biggest pageants; and she hasn't even graduated college yet.
On Monday November 29th, 51 young women from all across the country will compete for the title of Miss USA. Even if you aren't a huge fan of pageants, you might want to watch this history making program.
Of course, every single American will be rooting for the representative from their own state. Iowans should be even more excited about the results of this event.
University of Iowa senior Katie Wadman, will be representing the Hawkeye State this year. She studies psychology, journalism, and mass communications and is even on the school's NCAA Division I nationally ranked dance team.
The Nebraska native plans to continue her education by pursuing a master's degree in journalism.
Wadman is making history whether she wins the pageant or not. The University of Iowa student, is the first Asian Pacific Islander-Filipino Miss Iowa USA to be named in pageant history. The 2020 competition saw the first time a Filipino American took home the title of runner up in program history. This contestant, Kimberly Layne of Idaho, came quite close last year.
Layne came right behind the current Miss USA Asya Branch of Mississippi.
Wadman might end up making history as both the first Miss USA of Asian Pacific Islander-Filipino descent AND only the second Miss Iowa USA since 1956 when Carol Morris was crowned.
Interestingly enough, both Morris and Wadman hail from Omaha, Nebraska.
