If you love to get crafty you'll soon have a new place to stock up on supplies on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids!

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Michael's, the nation's largest provider of arts and crafts, will open a location on the SW side of Cedar Rapids as part of the ongoing Westdale Town Centre redevelopment project. Frew Development Group, which is overseeing the $90 million redevelopment of the Westdale Mall property, announced yesterday that Michael's has signed a lease on a 16,000 square feet property with a target opening of mid-2024.

Michael's has one other Cedar Rapids location, in the Collins Road Square shopping center. The Gazette reports that the store opened in 1993, and closed for several months after suffering extensive damage in the 2020 derecho. There is also a Michael's location at 2515 Corridor Way in Coralville.

The Gazette reports that the transformation of the Westdale Mall area is nearing completion. There are still three restaurant and five retail locations remaining. Also scheduled for construction in 2024 are 148 market-rate apartments.
