A 2016 incident at the University of Northern Iowa that left a sound technician injured appears to have been resolved. Francesco Sgambellone of Massachusetts was working at a Luke Bryan concert when he sustained an injury, as reported by the Des Moines Register. According to reports, Sgambellone was loading up sound equipment into a truck when a forklift backed up into him.

Allegedly the machine tire rolled onto his upper right ankle and broke it.

Sgambellone won his lawsuit in April; his attorney claimed that this negligence was on Iowa since the forklift operator was an employee of the state. However, these compensatory damages were not made official until early June after the State Appeal Board approved the usage of the state funds.

The incident took place in February of 2016 during Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights tour which featured multiple special guests including Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch.

This is a part of a $5.7 million settlement from the state of Iowa to cover multiple cases of discrimination and negligence claims on multiple public universities, as reported by the Associated Press. This was the largest of the different settlements, others included an age discrimination case with the University of Iowa Department of Public Safety.
