As the heat wave continues to worsen across the Midwest, over 30 places to escape the high temperatures and humidity are now open across Linn County.

A heat advisory is now in effect across a large part of Iowa until 9 p.m. Thursday night, July 27. The National Weather Service issues a Heat Advisory for "extremely dangerous heat conditions."

Surprisingly, Tuesday was only the second time Cedar Rapids has reached 90 degrees during the month of July. It was 90 in Cedar Rapids on the 4th of July and 93 yesterday (July 25). Temperatures are expected to climb to the upper 90s in many places in eastern Iowa today, as well as on Thursday and Friday. KCRG TV-9 is forecasting a high of 99 degrees on Friday. If reached, it would be the hottest temperature in Cedar Rapids in a decade. Daily high temperatures to drop below 90 degrees until Monday, July 31.
