In June 2023, four-star running back from Naples, Florida Kendrick Raphael committed to the University of Iowa's football program.

Raphael made the decision ahead of his senior year, saying this in the attached tweet:

I am 100% committed to the University of Iowa!!!!!

Well, not quite 100 percent, apparently. As he announced on Instagram and Twitter this afternoon, the running back has decided to renounce his commitment to the Hawkeyes.

The senior also did not mention the possibility of recommitting to playing in Iowa City, either. As to why the decision was made, Raphael never gave a specific reason in his post.

But there is sure to be speculation among the fan base.

Fear that other high-profile commits like Kadyn Proctor and Trevor Lauck making a decision to decommit could permeate as well. Is this yet another byproduct of Iowa's inept offense? Could this be another failing of Brian Ferentz?

During his junior season, Raphael ran for over 1,300 yards and 18 touchdowns. Standing at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds, Raphael is ranked as the No. 64 player in Florida, the No. 22 running back nationwide, and is a top-350 player in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports Composite.

247Sports also lists several other Power 5 conference schools that have offered a full ride to the Florida native: North Carolina State, West Virginia, Iowa State, Purdue, Minnesota, Duke, and others.

North Carolina State was one of the heavy favorites to land the talented running back before he committed to the Hawkeyes.

Though this is a big loss for Iowa in the 2023 class, the remainder of the commits will bring plenty of talent to Iowa City. With Proctor and Lauck mentioned, several other high-profile guys are in the class. Iowa City High's own Ben Keuter, Alex Mota from Marion, Marco Lainez III from New Jersey, and more.
