Shots have been in the news a lot lately. COVID vaccine, the flu shot... this article isn't at all about that kinda shot, it's about the kind that is far less divisive and somehow political. It's about the booze shots!

If you're of age, and you enjoy a little nightlife action from time to time, chances are you have partaken in some shots in your day. But if you were to be grilled about your favorite shot, what would you pick?

Well, because there's a study for everything, I can safely say, I now know the answer...

The website that claims to know it all when it comes to our shot of choice is Shane Co. While I've poked fun at these guys in the past, I think their research here was more, for lack of a better word, intense.

I mean, when you're talking about taking shots, why not go all out, right? Before the metrics behind the study, our favorite show in Iowa, and it's a doozy, is... the Jolly Rancher.

A sweet treat that goes down a little too easily, if you're not familiar, the Jolly Rancher shot usually uses vodka as its main booze. Then usually a flavor of schnapps, I've seen a lot of recipes that call for green apple schnapps. Then add pineapple and lime juice.

The Jolly Rancher is a shot that, if made right, is so sweet and smooth, you'll actually enjoy it. But don't let that deceive you. The Jolly Rancher can still mess you up!

One variation, Tipsy Bartender calls for a slightly stronger shot:

1 Part Blue Curacao
1 Part Watermelon Pucker
Splash Everclear

Everclear? YIKES.

Region-wise, we must have a lot of house parties. Our favorite shot in the midwest as a whole is the Jello shot.

So how did Shane Co. figure all this out? No, they didn't hit up a bunch of bars in every state. They first snagged 33 keyword terms from various booze recipe websites. They also checked Google Trends data from 2017 to 2022.

So do you agree? Are you a Jolly Rancher shot fan? Or Jello Shot aficionado? I think we can all agree, a Jolly Rancher, Iowa's fav., is less deadly than the Four Horsemen, Texas' favorite shot.

Four Horsemen shot consists of four types of whiskey - Bourbon, Tennessee, Scotch, and Irish. Good heavens...

Drink responsibly!
