Winter Storm Warning For Much Of Eastern Iowa
Temperatures have been relatively mild so far this February. In fact, I've gotten quite comfortable being able to see my brown lawn at home. But mother nature has a way of reminding us that it is in fact, still winter. Another winter storm is making its way toward Eastern Iowa and many of us will see measurable snowfall, whether we want it or not.
Our friends with the First Alert Weather team at KCRG report that a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect for a large portion of Eastern Iowa at midnight and extend through Thursday evening at 6 p.m. Counties under the warning include Benton, Cedar, Dubuque, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Linn, and Washington.
Just how much snow will this system bring with it? As with any storm, the path is the key but right now KCRG is forecasting that anyone south of Highway 20 could see between 3 and 7 inches of snow accumulation by the time the storm ends on Thursday evening. The other problem will be the winds. They are expected to gust as high as 30 to 35 mph causing reduced visibility and blowing and drifting snow. The timing of this storm also looks like it will be especially tough on the Thursday morning commute.
But it isn't all bad news. While Friday looks cold with highs only in the 20s, KCRG reports that high temperatures will reach back into the 40s for both Saturday and Sunday, which should lead to plenty of melting snow. Bring back my brown yard, please!
