Each month, Midwest Living has their travel writers put together a list of the things in the Midwest that you should check out. It features different events, shows, restaurants, businesses, hotels, activities, and more. Iowa doesn't always get a mention in the monthly article, but we did in November! A new shop in Des Moines called The Good Butcher got a shout out!

So, what sets the Good Butcher apart from your standard butcher shop? The fact that all their meat is sourced from local Iowa and Midwest farms! The article from Midwest Living reads:

"Our Des Moines-based team has been eagerly awaiting the opening of The Good Butcher, a specialty butcher shop that opened in downtown late last month. Whether it's traditional salumi and brats or rotating cuts of steaks and chops, the Good Butcher is making it easier to get high-quality meat from local farmers."

According to the official website, "the Good Butcher is your resource for the best meat that our great state has to offer." It is apparently the ONLY butcher shop in Iowa that is licensed to produce dry cured meats, which are perfect for charcuterie boards! The shop also offers free samples of something that they sell EVERY DAY. Who doesn't love a free sample?!

The Good Butcher just held their grand opening back on October 19th, but it's already getting some great reviews! Google reviewers recommend the ribs, beef jerky, ribeye, brats, and Italian sausage. Jenny Blankenship writes, "the Good Butcher in Des Moines is a fantastic find for anyone who appreciates high-quality meats!"

Another service that the Good Butcher offers is deer processing. They accept deer "either quartered and bone in or boneless cleaned trim." You can get more information on that HERE.

The Good Butcher is open Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can check out the official website HERE.
