Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids to Undergo Emergency Repairs
The Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids has a rich history and has undergone upgrades and repairs along the way. Now, more repairs are on the way as the historic theater will undergo emergency repairs.
Paramount Theater underwent repairs after the 2008 flood
The Corridor Business Journal reports that the Paramount Theatre underwent extensive renovations after it was deluged with floodwaters during the flood of 2008. But the new structural problems were not detected in the original, nearly 100-year-old theater building.
Where is the newly discovered damage inside the Paramount Theater?
The CBJ reports that the damage discovered is in a wall in a part of the newer addition to the theater. The loading area and dressing rooms were built before the Paramount reopened in 2012. According to a report from earlier this year, Apex Structural Engineers and Designers cited bowing precast walls in the southwest corner of the newer building addition. The CBJ reports that many panels showed signs of weather-related deterioration.
When Will the Repairs Be Done?
The city of Cedar Rapids has approved around $132,000 in emergency funds for the Paramount Theatre repairs. The CBJ reports that work will start immediately, with the goal of being completed by November 10th. The repairs are expected to be minor and will not interfere with any upcoming performances.
