One of my favorite all-time Green Bay Packers players is calling it a career. He was also one of the best cornerbacks to ever play at the University of Iowa.
Micah Hyde has announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 stellar seasons. Packers Wire reports that Hyde had spent the past season on the Buffalo Bills practice squad, but hadn't played in a game this season.
Hyde starred at the University of Iowa and was drafted by the Packers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent four years in Green Bay and was an outstanding defensive back and special teams player according to Packers Wire. In Green Bay, Hyde put up totals of 227 tackles, 4 sacks, 24 pass breakups, and three punt return touchdowns with the Packers. In fact, his punt return for a touchdown in 2014 against Detriot is still the last Packer punt return for a touchdown!
I loved watching Micah play for my green and gold. And I was disappointed like most Packer fans when Ted Thompson decided NOT to sign Hyde to a new contract following the 2016 season. Packers Wire reports that he signed with Buffalo and went on to have two straight All-Pro seasons at the safety position.
The Green Bay Packers have had several former Iowa Hawkeye players on their roster over the past few decades, Micah Hyde being one of them. Packers front office officials have said on record that they like how the Hawkeye football program gets its players ready for the NFL! Here are some other Hawkeye greats that also wore the green and gold. GO PACK GO!
