
Iowa City Fire Engine Kills Pedestrian While On Call
An investigation is underway into what caused an Iowa City fire truck to collide with a pedestrian while on a call early Sunday morning.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the Iowa State Patrol is investigating the collision that left a 99-year-old woman dead. According to a news release from the city, a fire engine with the Iowa City Fire Department was leaving a medical emergency call at Legacy Senior Living at 1020 Scott Blvd., when it was "involved in an accident with a pedestrian." The Gazette reports that the accident resulted in a fatality.
The Gazette reports that according to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the victim has been identified as 99-year-old Evelyn Bothmer of Iowa City. The report states that she was struck by the fire engine and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The entire incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
