Caught on Video: Cedar Rapids Police Chase Biker From Marion
A new video shows a high-speed chase between a motorcycle and Cedar Rapids police, and the driver of the bike doing tricks on the roadway.
KCRG reports that Cedar Rapids police officers were involved in a high-speed chase with a motorcycle on Wednesday evening. Officials say that an airplane with the Iowa State Patrol was able to track the motorcycle and clocked him at a top speed of 177 miles per hour. The driver of the bike was identified as 19-year-old Kyle Ward of Marion, according to KCRG.
KCRG reports that they obtained footage from Iowa DOT cameras along Highway 100 that shows Ward doing tricks on the motorcycle and a pickup truck following him, filming the action. You can view that video HERE.
According to a Facebook post from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Ward sped away from authorities, but wasn't able to get away. The Iowa State Patrol was able to maintain visual contact with Ward and led police to the location where he attempted to hide. He was arrested and booked on the following charges;
- felony eluding 25 MHP over the speed limit
- Careless driving
- Speeding
- Disobeying a traffic control device
- Improper passing
- Failure to display a registration plate
- Improper tires
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Bob Conrad told KCRG that chases like this are not only dangerous for people involved but also for other drivers and first responders.
