A Dramatic Increase Of This Disease Seen in Wisconsin in 2024
The cold mimics the many troubles we encounter as humans.
What is a Cold and could it be allergies?
The common cold, according to the Mayo Clinic, is an infection of the nose, sinuses, throat, and windpipe. There is no cure for the common cold just rest, keep up on the fluids, and maybe some over-the-counter medication, if you need it. Allergies also mimic the cold but if you're doing a little itching it might be allergies.
How do you know when it's not just a cold?
NIH says that when you have a fever and aches, it's becoming more than a cold. This disease starts like the common cold, including a runny nose, sore throat, and low-grade fever. About a week later, intense coughing fits begin, which can last for several minutes at a time. The Disease is whooping cough (pertussis).
What is whooping Cough?
Whooping cough is a very contagious bacterial infection that affects the lungs and airways. It often causes a nasty cough that can produce thick mucus, and some people may even vomit afterward. You might hear a "whoop" sound when someone tries to catch their breath after a coughing fit, but not everyone has that symptom.
What is Happening in Wisconsin?
The Transmission and treatment of whooping cough
Whooping cough is spread through the droplets of coughs or sneezes from an infected person. The vaccine is a protection. The primary treatment beyond that are antibiotics to kill the bacteria that cause the disease. With proper treatment, most people recover from whooping cough, and have no lasting effects. Recovery can take three to six months. Whooping cough can be life-threatening for babies under six months old, and they may need to be hospitalized. Older children who are very sick may also need to be hospitalized.
