Whether you are a fan of either team competing in this weekend’s Super Bowl game, there is plenty more to look forward to. I personally look forward to the big game for the food, commercials, and beer.

One of the most famous commercials of the Super Bowl is Budweiser, especially the ones with the infamous Clydesdale horses. This year, Budweiser’s parent company Anheuser-Busch has chosen not to renew its exclusivity deal with the NFL meaning it will share the spotlight with other beer companies.

In addition to this, Budweiser will not be airing its commercials nationally. Instead, the company has shifted its focus to 14 regional markets in order to reach a younger audience. While it is not clear if Iowans will get to view the famous Clydesdale featuring commercial,  the company has named Philadelphia, California, and New York as key markets.

But even if you don’t get to watch the commercial during the Super Bowl, you can still watch it below.

Iowa has a better Budweiser connection.

For one Oelwein man, his love for Clydesdale horses gave him the opportunity to attend Super Bowls, presidential inaugurations, and the Olympics.

Robert Detweiler currently works as a Breeding Farm Manager at Anderson Farms in Oelwein. However, in his early 20’s, he got the opportunity to work with Budweiser.

He told KWWL, he got the opportunity to work with the company when they called asking him to be a harness cleaner for its East Coast hitch.

The lead driver was transferred to somewhere else, and another guy had hurt his shoulder. They asked me if I could drive the horses just that one day till they brought somebody else in, and one thing lead to another and I ended up driving the horses.

Detweiler drove horses for 10 years and was even named a lead driver in 1989. He performed in five Super Bowl’s three presidential inaugural parades, and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

In 1998 Detweiler decided to return home to Oelwein.
