The latest recall notice to hit Iowa shelves takes us over to the freezer section. On Thursday, the United States Department of Agriculture sent out a recall notice for Home Run Inn Frozen Foods, which is based out of Woodridge Illinois, for over 13,000 pounds of frozen pizza.

The pizzas that are being recalled are the “Home Run Inn CHICAGO'S PREMIUM PIZZERIA DELUXE SAUSAGE CLASSIC PIZZA”. These pizzas have a best-by date of December 3, 2022.

According to the USDA, the pizza was shipped to a distributor in Illinois before being shipped to grocers/ retailers across the country including Iowa.

So what caused this recall?

The recall was called due to “foreign matter contamination”. It was discovered after Home Run Inn Frozen Foods received consumer complaints about finding metal in the pizza. Fortunately, there have been no injuries or reactions from the metal.

The pizzas were produced on June 6th so the Food Safety Inspection Service has concerns that there may be more products in consumer freezers or retail freezers. To help identify the recalled pizza, consumers are asked to check the establishment number for “EST. 18498-A which is located inside the USDA mark of inspection.

If you purchased any of these pizzas, the USDA  asks that you return them or throw them away. The USDA asks anyone with questions about the recall to reach out to Nick Perrino, COO of Home Run Inn Frozen Foods at 630-783-9696 ext. 2151.
