The Iowa Department of Public Health announced nearly 400 new cases of the coronavirus Friday morning, along with 12 additional deaths.

To date, COVID-19 has claimed 243 lives in Iowa.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Iowa rose to 11,457 after 398 people tested positive on Thursday.

State health officials say 417 people are currently hospitalized in Iowa with symptoms of the coronavirus, including 37 in Black Hawk County, 22 in Linn County, 21 in Marshall County and 16 in Dubuque County. There are 97 patients currently hospitalized in Polk County, which has recorded 2,053 positive cases – the most of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Statewide, 4,685 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered. A total of 70,261 people have been tested.
