Iowans, What Are The Real Odds of Winning The Powerball?
Last night's (October 4) Powerball Jackpot was estimated at $1.2 billion. The winning numbers were 09,35,54,63,64,01. Sadly for anyone who played, there was not a winning ticket sold. As of this morning, the estimated Powerball winnings have soared to $1.4 billion for Saturday's drawing.
Everyone knows the odds of winning the Powerball are pretty slim but, did you know you have better odds of winning the Powerball than you do of being born? It sounds kind of strange when you put it like that but supposedly it's true. Check out the odds of these real-life scenarios compared to winning the Powerball. Other than being born...have any of these things happened to you?
What Are The Odds?
Bookies have put together the odds on scenarios that could possibly happen in your life. The odds of winning the Powerball and Mega Millions is 75.6 quadrillion to 1. You have better odds of completing a perfect NCAA College Basketball bracket than you do of winning the Powerball and Mega Millions. The odds of completing a perfect bracket are 120.1 billion to 1.
Some of these real-life scenarios seem like they should be a lot more likely, like being eaten by a shark or being struck by lightning twice. The odds of those events happening are 264 million to 1 and 19 million to 1. With the amount of famous actors in the world, it's tough to believe the odds of becoming a movie star are 1.5 million to 1.
Those who play poker or gamble at the casino might not realize the odds of being dealt the best hand, a royal flush, are 649,739 to 1. The odds of being dealt Blackjack 3 times in a row is 22,722 to 1. There are millions of golfers around the world who dream of one day hitting a hole-in-one. All I have to tell any golfer is...keep playing. Your odds of making a hole-in-one are 12,500 to 1. To end on a high note, if you'd like to live to be 100 years old, your odds are 3,777 to 1.
This is the real-life scenario that kind of blows my mind. If you're lucky enough to be reading this right now, you're a miracle. The odds of you being born are 400 quadrillion to 1...
Next Powerball Drawing
At the time of writing, you now have until Saturday to grab yourself a few Powerball tickets. With a slim chance of winning close to $1.4 billion, I think spending 2 dollars on a ticket or 3 dollars when you add the Power Play option is well worth the financial risk.
Good luck and always remember to gamble responsibly.
