Bizarre Time Zone Proposal Would Split Iowa in Half
As Iowans, we're used to hard work and long hours. Our farmers get up early and go to bed late. The actual time of day doesn't necessarily impact the work that needs to be done.
But still, what's wrong with our current time zone? Nothing.
Do We Need New Time Zones in The United States?
In a classic case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it,' people online are looking for ways to change elements of our time structure that don't really need to be changed.

There have been strong pitches lately to end changing the clocks twice yearly for Daylight Saving Time, but no pitches to radically change the time zones in the U.S.
Proposed New Time Zones Would Divide Iowa into Two
This is, again, not an actual bill or something floating around the desk of President Trump. It's really just... fun, I guess, social media fodder.

A thread on Reddit asks user for their thoughts on several new time zones that would split Iowa, and many other states, into multiple time zones.
In this unique idea, the U.S would have several new time zones, all offset by 30 minutes from the neighboring one.
In these new Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) time zones, a majority of Iowa would be at UTC -6, but some of Iowa would become UTC -6.5.
That means if it were 11 in Cedar Rapids or Des Moines, it would be 10:30 in Sioux City, and far western Iowa (and into Nebraska). This would cut many Midwestern states into two, offset by 30 minutes, time zones.
While being 30 minutes behind or ahead of another part of the state or country may seem odd, it's not unheard of.
In Newfoundland, Canada, there is a 30-minute change in time from neighboring zones.
Again, I can't stress this enough: no one (with authority) is pitching this idea. And, most Reddit users think it's a lousy idea, so it's not happening. It's an opinion piece with little merit.
It's NOT Happening
What do you think? Personally, I think it's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. But the map is cool. So, there's that.
