We've all been hearing about the new tariffs and the likely cost increases we'll see. There have been signs that deals can be reached, but it's unlikely that every country will be able to make a deal to keep costs lower.
As a result of the potential increased costs, Iowans and all Americans are encouraged to stock up on certain items because they may cost a lot more in the near future.

Food Costs Likely to Rise
While it's not cheap to buy groceries in general, the costs could rise even more once tariffs are enacted.

According to U.S. News, about 15% of U.S. food is imported, and many everyday items like fresh fruits, seafood, and coffee come from countries hit by tariffs.

Food cost fears are real. WTOP News reports that as of May 2025, 57% of shoppers worry about higher food costs, with 75% fearing grocery price increases
Depending on the country of origin, some items could see a 1046% increase. Our list below highlights the items you should consider getting, and if possible, stocking up on now.
Not listed, fresh produce. Depending on the season, a good amount of produce does come from the U.S., but there are seasons when Iowans know their fresh fruit is coming from Mexico, or elsewhere, where winters aren't harsh.
Because produce varies so much, and isn't easy to stock up because of its short shelf life, it doesn't make this list.
