Earlier today we learned about Iowa setting a record that we hope to never come close to again.

Were you aware there were there have been this many tornadoes in Iowa so far in 2024? Here we have a record that Iowa can be a little bit more excited for. The Iowa State Fair saw some incredible numbers during the first opening weekend and fair officials have been wondering if these early numbers would help propel the fair to new heights.

The official count is in and the Iowa State Fair has a new attendance record!

2024 State Fair Attendance Record

According to KCCI, fair officials have finished their count and the total attendance for the 11-day fair was 1,182,682 attendees. This smashed the previous record by 12,307 people! The previous record was in 2019 when 1,170,375 people made their visit to the state fair. In 2023, 1,133,958 people attended the fair which was the second most at that time.

This is what can happen when you combine excellent weather and the state of Iowa. We want to go outside and do things and enjoy experiences in the Hawkeyes state, and I think this record is pretty dang cool. I'm sure the businesses and vendors at the fair appreciated all of the attendees as well.

Other Notable Records

The total attendance wasn't the only record that was made during the fair's 11-day stretch. According to KCCI, 9 out of the 11 days this year had a higher attendance than the corresponding day last year.

The first Saturday of the fair set a new record for all-time single-day attendance. Tuesday, August 13th, was the 6th day the fair was open and 105,384 people visited the fair, which broke the day 6 record set back in 2019.
