After finding the photo of these 3 guys, morel mushroom hunters in eastern Iowa better get after it!

A photo on the I Grew Up in Iowa Facebook page shows 3 guys who recently hauled in 117 pounds of morel mushrooms. This is probably the biggest haul of morel mushrooms that I've ever seen. I've always wondered if hunters make multiple trips back to their secret spots when they find an area that provides this many morels or do they try and grab as many as possible at one time? I'd guess it's probably a little bit of both.

(*I have not received permission to use the photo but you can see the massive collection by clicking the link.* )

The weather has been great for morel hunting and these 3 guys have cashed in if they want to sell them. As someone who is not a fan of mushrooms, I would never look for morels to eat. If I ever found a patch of morels that led to a giant hall, I probably give my family members who like them a few pounds and then I'd sell the rest.

By the Pound

Just like any product, prices can vary depending on the quality and the availability. The midwest is known for being an excellent area for morels to grow, so it's less likely you'll find prices for $100 a pound, which I have seen online before.

Normally, morels in Iowa will sell somewhere between $20-$30 per pound, according to Foraged. Whether you're selling/buying at a farmer's market, a roadside stand, or a food store, the prices are generally somewhere in that range.

If we meet in the middle and use $25 per pound, the 3 Iowa men who found 117 pounds would be able to make a total of $2,925 if they sold the entire harvest. Not too bad for a day or two of hunting!
