Iowa’s Amazing Run of New Lottery Millionaires Continues
Over the last few months, Iowa has been on a big run of people winning at least a million dollars. It's happened again!
Since August, there have been five different occasions where a ticket sold in Iowa was worth major moolah. Three of the winners have come in the last six weeks.
Nobody won Monday's Powerball jackpot, which was worth $485 million. However, three tickets were sold around the U.S. that won at least a million dollars. One of those winning tickets was sold in Cudahy, Wisconsin, and the other in Danbury, Iowa. Danbury is a town of 320 people in northwest Iowa, about 50 miles from Sioux City.
The Danbury ticket was purchased at KCK's Food and Fuel and missed sharing the $485 million jackpot by just one number. The ticket, worth $1 million, had the numbers 19-30-36-46-60, but didn't have the Powerball, which was 25. The $1 million prize was won by a man who had a difficult 2022 leading up to his win.
2022 has been a big year for new millionaires in Iowa. There have been a total of seven tickets sold this year that have been worth at least $1 million, and two of the tickets have yet to be turned in. The two below haven't been redeemed. Here's when and where they were purchased:
- Tuesday, September 6: A $1 million Mega Millions ticket was sold for the drawing at Gateway Expresse in Ames.
- Monday, October 10: A Powerball ticket worth $2 million was sold for the drawing at Casey's on Highway 69 S. in Forest City.
Here are Iowa's confirmed new millionaires this year:
Darryl Ingram of Mapleton won $1 million in the Powerball drawing on Monday, October 17. He turned in the winning ticket three days later.
Tad Alber of West Union won a cool million with Mega Millions on Saturday, August 20. He grabbed the cash the following Tuesday.
Ben Sanford of Davenport won $2 million in the July 29 Mega Millions drawing. He spent a few weeks planning for his new-found wealth, before claiming the cash.
In April, Josh Buster of West Burlington won a million bucks with Mega Millions.
The first winners of 2022 were Karla and Keith Elenz of New Hampton. They won $2 million with Powerball in January.
