Iowa Man Breaks World Record for Largest Eggplant
DO NOT GIGGLE! I REPEAT DO NOT GIGGLE!
Holding a world record for anything is a huge accomplishment. Iowa is home to quite a few record holders.
There is Keeley and Kambry, twin sisters who hold the record for the most premature twins; and there's Kevin the great Dane who held the title for tallest living dog.
News came out earlier this week that someone in Iowa set a massive world record with one of his home-grown vegetables.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced that a man in Bloomfield, Iowa set a new world record for largest eggplant.
State officials confirmed that Dave Bennett's eggplant weighs 8.33 pounds. It measures 28 inches around its center and 32 inches lengthwise, according to reports.
Bennett actually got into this thanks to his second cousin. They were actually a past winner of the Big Pumpkin competition at the Iowa State Fair.
Two years ago, the recent world record holder set the state record at 5.6 pounds.
If the vegetable doesn't shrivel up soon, Bennett is hoping to take it to the Iowa State Fair next week.
The previous world record was held by a man in the UK named Peter Glazebrook. His eggplant weighed 7 pounds and 6.6 ounces, according to reports. Glazebrook held the world record for two and a half years before Bennett swooped in.
Bennett fertilized it with cow and sheep manure, according to reports. He didn't reveal all of his secrets for growing the large vegetable.
