Well, here we are. Another day, another suspicious study. This time, it's Power Brands trying to identify our favorite type of pop.

Shared by the website AllRecipes, it's time for us to find out what we love the most... according to a bunch of goofy metrics.

So, what is our favorite pop?

The Study Says...

If you put any credence in these studies, then maybe you'll be happy to know our top pop was only picked by Iowa, and no other state selected it as their favorite.

Allrecipes reports that while national favorites like Coca-Cola and Dr Pepper dominate, Iowa stands out as the one state that favors A&W Root Beer.

How the Study Was Done

The Power Brands study simply analyzed Google Trends data by tracking the names of popular soft drinks.

That's... it. No sales figures or actual hard data. Just Google searches.

Didn't Another Study Say Something Else? (Yes)

If the findings here seem a tad odd, it's because they are. Just a couple of months back, Data Panda found Mountain Dew to be our favorite fizzy drink.

That pick makes far more sense. You see Mountain Dew everywhere. A&W Root Beer? Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't feel like it's very present.

Data Panda did rank "root beer" in our top 5, however:

  1. Mountain Dew
  2. Pepsi
  3. Dr Pepper
  4. Coca-Cola
  5. Root beer

While the Data Panda study seems more plausible, I searched the site for some time and could not figure out exactly how they reached their conclusions... is it sales-based? Let's hope so.

THAT is a logical metric.
