According to a recent report, the Iowa Department of Transportation has issued over 46,000 "Blackout" license plates since July 1st. That officially makes it the most popular specialty plate in the state of Iowa, surpassing the University of Iowa plate that currently has about 31,000 across the Hawkeye state.

The plates grew so popular in the month of September, the state actually ran out of them temporarily. The report also shows that 30% of all the plates are customised which only costs $35, ten dollars more than non customisable plates. DOT officials say that these plates have generated nearly 2 million dollars for upcoming road and bridge projects. These plates sure are a hit.
