Bill Likely to Increase Sales at Iowa Breweries, Distilleries & Wineries

Craft beer, local distilleries and wineries... People love to shop and patronize local. So it's no surprise there's a good deal of support for a new bill scooting its way towards Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. Radio Iowa Reports the bill would open up the option for an Iowa brewery, winery or distillery to sell its beverages in a site other than the property where the alcohol is created.

Should the law pass, the owners of any Iowa winery, distillery and brewery would be able to get a state license to sell their products for consumption at a second location. In the report, Representative Jane Bloomingdale of Northwood called the bill 'good for Iowa.' She pointed out how a local establishments second location could actually send business back to the original one.

It also allows them a little more visibility and hopefully they get more visitors out to their vineyard.

Iowa wineries, distilleries and breweries are vital to the economy

Senator Carrie Koelker of Dyersville pointed out the major and positive economic impact that wineries, distilleries and breweries have had on the states economy, and the staples they've become in many cities and towns.

The bill passed the House in late March and it passed the Senate last Thursday, which means it just needs Gov. Reynold's signature to become state law.
