Iowa Skies Hold Strange Secrets, UFO Data Shows

There has been a lot of talk about alien visitors in the past few years. Don't get me wrong, the concept of UFOs flying overhead has always been a popular subject matter.

From movies to TV shows, books to comics, aliens are on the mind a lot.

The recent claim that the US found "nonhuman" beings is still the subject of much chatter.

But, where in Iowa are you most likely to spot a little green creature, assuming they're green?

A recent map from Newsweek, based on data from the National UFO Reporting Center, highlights the states with the most UFO sightings reported since 1995.

Out of 133,717 total sightings across the U.S., California leads by a mile with over 16,000 reports, followed by Florida and Washington. Logical, given the size and populations of these states.

Western states dominate the top of the list, especially when adjusting for population. Washington and Vermont rank highest on a per-person basis

UFO Sightings Over Iowa Skies

Iowa, in contrast, ranks much lower in the national UFO sighting count.

Still, UFO activity in the Hawkeye State may be more visible than it appears.

Cities like Des Moines lead with approximately 104 sightings since 1995, followed by Cedar Rapids with 89, Council Bluffs with 38, and Waterloo close behind at 35, according to Stacker.

Even when considering sightings per capita, Jefferson County stands out within Iowa, with about 114 sightings per 100,000 people.

Polk County, home to Des Moines, falls to 37th in the state in per-person reporting from Axios.

While Iowa may not be a national UFO hotspot, its residents still report plenty of strange lights and unexplained aerial phenomena.

Whether aliens are checking out the cornfields or Midwestern skies simply invites curiosity; the stories from Iowa show that UFO watchers here are just as intrigued as those in the more famous sighting states.
