I Attended My First Ever Kernels Game in Cedar Rapids [PHOTOS]
It was a big weekend for my fiance and me, as we finally had a weekend to relax. We didn't have to do anything we didn't want to. We've been running back and forth to Minnesota, every weekend it feels since we've moved to Iowa. Whether we had family events we needed to attend or finish moving all of our stuff, it really felt like we finally had a weekend to do nothing.
We decided to relax by...well, doing a lot of running around. Not exactly my idea of a relaxing weekend, but we still had a blast. We had a friend stop over on Friday night for a bonfire, we went to visit the Good Makers Market at the Cedar County Fairgrounds, we visited a new friend's house for the first time, and we went to our first Kernels game. A lot of big firsts since we've been here.
I grew up a pretty big Minnesota Twins fan and I had no clue the Kernels were an affiliate of my favorite major league team. We picked the perfect day to see a baseball game. It wasn't too hot, we got to soak up some sun, and I got to meet my radio co-host family for the first time.
Our seats were amazing. We ended up right over the Kernel's first base dugout and saw a really close game. The Kernels did end up losing 6-4 but made it exciting in the final inning. They ended up with the bases loaded and 1 out, they just couldn't find a way to tie it up.
I was really surprised at how inexpensive everything was. Normally when you go to any kind of sporting event, you're preparing to shell out an arm and a leg for food and drinks, but this wasn't bad at all. My fiance and I both were able to enjoy a few beers, we each got a corndog, and if I remember right, it was under $20. Not bad!
Meeting Kerri's family was also amazing. When you have a brand new co-host and meet their family, you want it to go well. They were incredibly nice and I love their New York accents. I might have to start saying "water" the way they say it.
lf you've never been to a Kernels game before, you should go see one. We had so much fun and it was an awesome way to spend a Sunday together. I grew up a pretty big baseball fan and it's always nice to see a ballgame in person. Professional athletes look so much bigger in person than they do on tv. If we go to another game this summer, I'm staying after and playing catch in the outfield. Next, we're going to try and see a Waterloo bucks game.
