Last month Hy-Vee rolled out rapid antigen COVID-19 tests to some of their locations around the Midwest. The only location in the Cedar Valley to offer them was the Cedar Falls location on University Ave. Now Hy-Vee is expanding the rapid test offering to include rapid antibody tests. This time not only will the Cedar Falls location be available, tests can be taken at the Village Square Shopping Center location in Waverly, and the three Waterloo locations as well. Also added is the Charles City location (901 Kelly St.).

The Waterloo Hy-Vee is locations are:

  • Ansborough Avenue Hy-Vee, 2834 Ansborough Ave., Waterloo, IA
  • Crossroads Hy-Vee, 1422 Flammang Drive, Waterloo, IA
  • Logan Hy-Vee, 2181 Logan Ave., Waterloo, IA

According to the press release, patients will receive same day test results in as few as 15 minutes after completing the test. The rapid antibody test is available for patients who wish to learn if they have been previously infected with COVID-19 in the past and are not currently experiencing symptoms. An antibody test indicates if a patient was infected with the COVID-19 virus in the past. These antibodies are proteins a person’s body makes to fight infections, and the rapid antibody test will help assess if patients have antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19.

The rapid antibody test does not show if a patient has a current infection, because it can take 1-3 weeks after infection to make antibodies. The rapid antibody test cannot be used to diagnose current infection. Most Hy-Vee's do offer a rapid antigen test for those who want to know if they're COVID positive.
