Which state has the oldest median age in the country and how does Iowa compare?

I'm a firm believer that how you feel and how your body feels is more indicative of who you are than your age. Your age only signifies how long you have been alive. These numbers don't have to determine who you are, how mature you are, or if it's too late to accomplish something.

Age is irrelevant, talent is eternal!

You can achieve anything you set your mind to whether you've been on this earth for a long time or not. How long have Iowans been on this earth? Depending on how you look at it, Iowans are relatively young compared to the rest of the United States.

Iowa's Median Age

According to World Population Review, the median age for Iowa is 38.3 years old, which puts us in the lower half of the U.S. Iowa ranks as the 29th "oldest" state in the country.

At 38.3 years old, we might be past our athletic prime but we're still in our 30s! We're still young enough to achieve just about anything we want. According to My Personalisation, at 38 years old we've; lived for 13,879 days, you've consumed something close to 29 tons of food, you've likely slept around 111,000 hours, you have blinked around 300 million times, and you've likely drank around 6,900 gallons of water.

Oldest and Youngest States

There are reasons for some states having an older median age and a lot of these states are on the east coast. Maine currently has the oldest population with a median age of 44.8. This would make Maine 6 and a half years older than we are in Iowa.

Maine has a high percentage of baby boomers, which are people between 45 and 64 years old, and a very low percentage of people under 44 years old.

The top 5 oldest states are; Maine - 44.8, New Hampshire - 43, Vermont - 42.8, West Virginia - 42.7, and Florida 42.2. It makes sense for Florida to crack the top 10 as Florida is extremely popular for retirees to move as they get older.

The 5 youngest states/districts are: Utah - 31.1, the District of Columbia - 34.1, Alaska - 34.6, Texas - 34.8, and North Dakota - 35.2

Did you know Iowans are that young? Before starting the research for this article I would've guessed Iowans would've been closer to the top 10 in age, much less in the bottom half of the country!
