A Northeast Iowa man, accused of burning his own house down, has pleaded guilty to arson charges.


49 year old Kim Tielebein of Hazleton submitted the plea to the charge of Arson in the 2nd Degree, in Buchanan County District Court on Tuesday (May 16).

Tielebein is accused of intentionally starting a fire at his home on East Sufficool Street in Hazleton, on February 25th of this year. At the time, his house was in the process of being foreclosed upon.

Also at the time, Tielebein was on parole from convictions of 3 counts of Possession of a Firearm or Offensive Weapon by a Domestic Violence Offender, Possession of Ammunition by a Domestic Violence Offender, Eluding or Attempting to Elude While Operating While Intoxicated, OWI, and Driving While his License is Revoked.

After entering the guilty plea to arson, Tielebein was immediately sentenced to not more than 10 years in prison. Fines and surcharges were suspended.
