Grout, Iowa Veterans Museums Preparing To Reopen

Two Waterloo museums are preparing to reopen more than two months after being temporarily closed.

The Grout Museum of History and Science and the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum are scheduled to open their doors to the general public again on June 9. Both museums, which are housed in one building, will be open next week for members only.

Hours of operation for each museum will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM. Science demonstrations will be held in the Grout Museum's conference room each day at 11 AM, 1:30 PM and 3 PM. The Planetarium will remain closed temporarily.

The Bluedorn Science Imaginarium and the Rensselaer Russell House Museum, both part of the Grout Museum District, will also remain closed at this time.

Grout Museum District officials said new safety procedures have been implemented to help protect patrons and staff from the coronavirus. Everyone entering any of district's buildings will be required to wear a mask at all times. Guests should follow social distancing guidelines and remain six feet apart from others.

Hand sanitizer will be available at the Museum Store and at other points throughout the building. Visitors who do not have or forget to bring a mask, can purchase one for $1 at the Museum Store.
