The fallout continues from the failed NewBo Evolve festival held in Cedar Rapids in 2018, as two former executives of Go Cedar Rapids have pled guilty to one count each of bank fraud.

Former Go Cedar Rapids president/CEO Aaron McCreight and ex-financial director Doug Hargrave each appeared separately in court this week, according to KCRG and the Cedar Rapids Gazette, and will soon each be sentenced to similar charges.

Both admitted to collaborating to defraud Bankers Trust on the concert festival that left the now-defunct Go Cedar Rapids 2.3 million dollars in debt.

Many vendors to this day have yet to be paid for the event and headlining music star Kelly Clarkson almost wasn't, which could have led to an even worse black eye on the city of Cedar Rapids. Other celebs slated for the event included band Maroon 5, fashion designer Carson Kressley, filmmaker John Waters and U.S. Olympian Adam Rippon, who were tabbed to give speeches while appearing during the event, and some may or may not have been paid what they were promised.

Hargrave, now of Washington state, will lose his United States passport (but only after a generous judge allows him to keep it for a planned upcoming trip...what could go wrong???) and will lose voting rights. Wow. He'll also be required to notify his current employer of his guilty plea and the status of his Go Cedar Rapids case. McCreight, now residing in Alabama will lose his passport immediately, be allowed pretrial release without posting bail, and will also face the same potential 30 years in federal prison and $1 million in fines.
