Dick Peth, the Captain of the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball team that won the Big 10 title in 1979, has reached a milestone in his collegiate coaching career.

On December 9, the Wartburg Knights Men’s Basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 82-70, giving Coach Peth his 600th career victory. He is one of two active Division III men's basketball head coaches with at least 600 career victories.

Prior to joining the Knights in 1997, Peth coached at then-Division II University of Denver for 12 years collecting 221 wins. He led the Pioneers to winning seasons in all 12 years. He was also part of the Pioneers 79-game win streak from 1980-1985 as an assistant coach.

In his 25 years with Wartburg, he has had only six losing seasons and a total of 385 victories (as of January 21, 2022). He’s also led the Knights to three conference champions, one conference championship tournament, and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Peth played for former University of Iowa men's basketball coach Lute Olson from 1975 to 1979, captaining the 1979 team that won the Big 10 title and made it to the NCAA postseason tournament. He played a total of 107 games with the Hawkeyes and shot a career 82% from the free-throw line in his four years at Iowa.
