Hey Iowa, Here’s How to Stop Facebook From Chirping At You
Have you recently been scrolling through your Facebook page on your smartphone and come across a weird noise? Some are calling it a chirping sound or a small beeping noise. I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday when this happened to me and for a few minutes, I thought I might've had an extra app open, which was causing the unnecessary noise.
I checked to make sure all of my other apps were closed, which they were. I continued to doom scrolling when I heard this noise again. At this point, I thought I was going insane. Was there a bird somewhere in my house or just outside my window? I looked around my living room and...nothing.
I did some more scrolling and I heard this chirping sound again. That's when I decided it was time to check Google. My exact search was "Is there a chirping coming from Facebook or am I going insane?"
It turns out that I was in fact, not going insane. You aren't either if you've been hearing this noise while scrolling through the app on your phone. It turns out that this sound effect is part of a new update, according to KCRG. The good news is, this effect can easily be shut off.
What's The Noise For and How to Shut if Off
Supposedly, this update is supposed to make your mobile experience "more engaging and interactive." I happened to find the noise irritating and I'm not sure I understand the logic behind this idea. If you've been experiencing this chirping sound and would like to shut it off, here's how.
- Open the Facebook App on your iPhone
- Tapp the 3 small, horizontal dots in the bottom-right corner, to open the menu
- Scroll down and select Settings & Privacy
- Choose Settings
- Choose Profile Settings
- Click Media and Contacts
- Under Sounds, turn the "In-App Sounds" to off
If you've experienced this, you're not going insane. For 5 minutes I felt like the dumbest person on the planet.
