The UNI women's basketball team was scheduled to kick off the new year by hosting Missouri State at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, but preparations for that two-game series have been put on hold.

UNI's home games against the Bears were supposed to be played Friday and Saturday in Cedar Falls, both at 2 PM.

The Missouri Valley Conference this week announced the postponement of both games, due to high COVID-19 numbers within the Bears' program. League officials said the positive tests involve many of Missouri State's Tier I personnel, which consists of student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff.

MVC athletically-related activities will take place only to the extent permitted by local environments and applicable national, state, local and institutional guidelines in order to safeguard the health and safety of participants, staff and fans.

The conference will announce make-up dates for the postponed games at a later date. Once the series has been rescheduled, one of the two games is expected to be chosen as an MVC-selected production that is exclusively distributed to ESPN on either ESPN+ or ESPN3, league officials said in a press release.

UNI is off to a 3-4 start.

The Panthers are back in action for a two-game road series at Valparaiso Jan. 7-8.
