Dakota Bacus was perfect in his Major League Baseball debut.

The former Waterloo Bucks pitcher was called up to the big leagues Friday by the Washington Nationals. Completing a suspended game against the Baltimore Orioles, Bacus made his first appearance for Washington in the eighth inning. He faced just six batters over two innings, striking out one.

Bacus is the 17th former Bucks play to appear in a Major League Baseball game. He's one of three guys who wore a Waterloo uniform who's currently active on a major league roster, joining Oakland Athletics pitcher A.J. Puk and Chicago White Sox infielder Ryan Goins.

Former Waterloo Bucks infielder Zach McKinstry was called up by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 5, but was sent back down to Triple A without making an appearance for the big league club.

Bacus, a product of Indiana State University, pitched for Waterloo in 2011. The Moline, Ill., native appeared in 11 games, starting four. He finished his Waterloo career with a 2-1 record, struck out 19 batters in 26.2 innings pitched, and compiled a 4.39 ERA.

The right-handed hurler was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the ninth round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Entry Draft. Bacus played for 10 minor league teams before getting his break with the Washington Nationals organization. Most recently, he played for the Harrisburg Senators (AA) and the Fresno Grizzlies (AAA) in 2019.

Bacus was named a Pacific Coast League Mid-Season All-Star last year while pitching for Fresno. He finished the year with a 5-5 record, a 3.58 ERA, and 52 strikeouts in 46 appearances out of the pen for the Grizzlies.
