Caitlin Clark Breaks WNBA Assist Record in Rookie Season
Never underestimate Caitlin Clark... EVER.
2024 has been the year of Clark.
She helped lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to the NCAA Championship in her senior season for a second year. Then she was drafted first overall in the WNBA draft to the Indiana Fever.
The West Des Moines native has also struck endorsements with a plethora of major brands including Wilson Sporting Goods Co., State Farm, Gatorade, and Nike, according to reports.
Clark continues to make history during her rookie season in the WNBA.
During the Indiana Fever game's recent game on July 17th, the team took on the 12th ranked Dallas Wings in the final regular season game before the Olympic break.
Unfortunately, the Fever lost this matchup with a score of 93 to 101.
However, this game still counts as a career highlight for the rookie.
Caitlin Clark Breaks WNBA Record
During the final quarter of the game, Caitlin set her teammate Kelsey Mitchell up for a three-point shot that tied the game at 93 points.
While this moment might seem typical for Clark, who is known for setting her teammates up for success with stellar plays, it was actually a record-breaking moment.
The former Iowa Hawkeye broke the WNBA record for assists in a single game.
Before Clark, it was Courtney Vandersloot for the Chicago Sky who held the record since 2020 with eighteen assists in a game, according to reports.
The rookie star set the new record with nineteen assists in Wednesday's game.
It's only going to go up from here for Cailtin!
Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides lauded the Iowa native's performance in the game.
"19 assists is incredible, and the most assists in a season in franchise history tonight too," Clark's coach said.
