Two major road construction projects are getting underway this in Cedar Falls.

One project will close a portion of West 12th Street for the next 12 to 14 weeks. The other will impact the flow of traffic on Iowa Highway 57/West First Street for approximately eight weeks.

According to city officials, West 12th Street is being reconstructed between College and Tremont streets. The project is scheduled to start Monday and be finished by early- to mid-July, depending on the weather.

The next phase of a multi-year project to reconstruct Iowa 57 is also slated to start Monday. Workers will be removing the southern half of pavement on West 1st Street between Walnut and Catherine streets for under utility work. The project requires a full closure of the southern or eastbound lanes for approximately two months.

Eastbound and westbound traffic will be maintained in a head-to-head pattern through the construction zone for the duration of the project. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in early June.
