Proof of the ‘Caitlin Clark Effect’ Becoming a Global Phenomenon
Caitlin Clark's basketball takeover began with her record-breaking career at the University of Iowa.
She helped lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to multiple national championship games, broke tons of scoring records, and went on to become the first player selected in the WNBA draft. While Caitlin Clark is extremely popular to us in Iowa and basketball fans across the country, we have proof that the "Caitlin Clark Effect" is being felt across the globe.
While we might enjoy watching Caitlin and the Indiana Fever on a nightly basis, we never have to stay up past 10 to watch her play. We can enjoy her games and still go to bed at a reasonable time so we're refreshed for work the next morning.
In Iceland, these women don't have that luxury but they're making it work anyway. Were you aware that it's not just Iowa that holds Caitlin Clark watch parties? They host these in Iceland!
Women are hosting Caitlin Clark watch parties at a local pub in Iceland and they normally can't see the actual game until 11 pm or 12 am there time. It's not only Iceland that has jumped on the Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever bandwagon. This X (Twitter) user said her mom is a huge Clark fan from the Philippines!
While Iowa claims Caitlin Clark as one of our own, it might be time we truly understand that we have no choice but to share her with the rest of the world. She hasn't been for a long time...but she's no longer our own hidden thing in Iowa. We can't hide this special thing from the rest of the world anymore. It used to feel like Iowa had one of the best-kept secrets in all of sports and it's impossible at this point to deny that "the secret is out."
Good for Caitlin and it has been such a fun ride to watch her help grow and change the game of basketball. Caitlin Clark has helped lead the Indiana Fever to the WNBA playoffs and the team finished at the bottom of the entire league last season. Not only has she helped grow the game of basketball, but she's also helped lead her team out from the bottom barrel of the league.
