As the Waterloo Black Hawks are busy gearing up for their season opener on Friday, November 6th vs. Omaha at home in Young Arena, they're also getting "pumped up" for their 50th Thanksgiving evening hockey game.

It's a big anniversary to celebrate without their usual opponents, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the house. (The RoughRiders had to cancel their 2020/21 season due to heavy damage to their home arena.) However, Black Hawks fans need not worry, because the game will still be "heated" with Dupaco Cowbell Cup rivals the Dubuque Fighting Saints coming over for a Thanksgiving feast. Little do the visitors know, that they're not "welcomed guests" that night, they're what's on the menu! (cue - evil laugh here...)

Unlike other special promotion nights, the team will not be wearing the Thanksgiving logo during the matchup on November 26th, but it will appear in several places leading up to and during the game.

Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene said in a press release:

“Thanksgiving is obviously a family holiday, and the cartoon turkey in this logo represents that sense of family fun."

Black Hawk fans who would like to celebrate the 50th Thanksgiving game can order a short or long-sleeve t-shirt with the logo now at waterlooblackhawks.com. Orders will be accepted through Monday, November 16th and available for pickup or shipping beginning Thanksgiving week.  Shirts will only be available through this pre-order process; the Black Hawks do not anticipate having any in stock on Thanksgiving night.  The short-sleeve edition is available for $19; the long-sleeve style is $23.

Waterloo has acquired goaltender Jack Williams in a trade with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

According to a press release: Last season, Williams was a regular starter for the Lumberjacks, playing in 28 games and producing a record of 12-8-4. Four of his wins came in overtime or shootout situations. The now-19-year-old from St. Louis made a season-high 45 saves during an overtime loss at Young Arena on January 24th. It was one of eight instances when Williams made 30 or more saves in a game last season. Williams is committed to Michigan State. The Hawks traded a 2021 USHL Phase II draft pick to bring Williams to Waterloo.
