2025 Brings New Schedules and Upgrades to Waterloo Flights

2025 is bringing with it some changes for travelers through the Waterloo Regional Airport.

Over the past four years that I've lived in Iowa, I've flown out of the Waterloo Regional Airport a handful of times. It's a relatively small airport, but it still gets you to where you need to go.

This Iowa airport offers two nonstop flights to Chicago O'Hare.

At the end of last year, the primary airline out of Waterloo's airport, American Airlines, announced that they would be reintroducing an early morning flight to Chicago starting on April 4th, 2025.

Just a few months later on June 5th, passengers will be flying on a more spacious airplane, the Embraer E170 aircraft. 

"American is delighted to offer customers more flexible travel options from Waterloo to our Chicago O’Hare hub,” said Jordan Pack, American’s Director of Domestic Network Planning.

“With two daily flights next summer operated on dual-class regional jets, American will offer customers the choice of traveling in a premium cabin and additional convenient one-stop connections to destinations such as Orlando, Tampa, Las Vegas, and more on our comprehensive global network.”

“The Airport is excited to see American Airlines not only reintroducing the early morning flight but also upgrading to the E170,” said Steven Kjergaard, Waterloo Regional Airport Director.

“This demonstrates their commitment to our community and our travelers, providing more flexibility and a superior flying experience.”

How Is This Different From the Current Flight Schedule?

Right now, if you were to book a flight from Waterloo, Iowa to Chicago, Illinois this holiday season you would have two options for departure times; 10:10 AM and 6:31 PM.

You would arrive at O'Hare at 11:29 AM and 7:50 PM respectively.

Starting on April 5th, if you were to book a flight from ALO to ORD, you would have the option of 6:00 AM and 2:50 PM. Then starting in June that early flight will be even earlier with a scheduled departure time at 5:00 AM.

Due to the nature of the air travel industry, these flights are subject to change.

These American Airlines flights will be available seven days a week.
