Authorities have identified a Hopkinton woman, as the victim of a one vehicle fatality accident in Linn County.


At about 3:30pm Sunday (July 11th), emergency workers were called out to a deadly accident on Highway 151 near Stone Road, west of Springville.

Arriving deputies found a Sport Utility Vehicle upside down in the water, under a bridge that was still under construction.

Witnesses to the accident told officers that the vehicle was eastbound on Highway 151, ran off the road, and crashed into the water.

The driver and only occupant was identified as 80 year old Lois Winch of Hopkinton. Winch was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Linn County Sheriff continues to investigate the accident.

Authorities are looking into a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning (July 11th), that put a Northeast Iowa woman in the hospital.

The Linn County Sheriff was notified at about 5am, that one person was injured in an accident at Business Highway 30 and Lisbon Boulevard, on the southeast edge of Lisbon.

A vehicle driven by 22 year old Alexandria McDermott of Dubuque was northbound on Lisbon Road, when she failed to make the turn at the T-intersection, and drove into the ditch, where the vehicle stopped in a farm field.

McDermott was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Charges are still pending, and the accident remains under investigation

The Linn County Sheriff was assisted by the Mt. Vernon Lisbon Police Department, Lisbon Fire, and Lisbon Mt. Vernon Ambulance.
