Fans of the hit NBC show 'The Office' should be excited!

News has just been released that a spinoff of the NBC program has gotten the greenlight. This show is set to premiere on the network's streaming service, Peacock.

And from the looks of things, there is a possibility that it might just be set in the Hawkeye State.

Could 'The Office' Be Coming to Iowa?

It doesn't seem that any of the original characters from Steve Carell's era will be returning, so the connecting thread between the two shows will be the documentary film crew.

The official synopsis of the new show came out and it confirms some interesting details.

"The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."

A MIDWESTERN NEWSPAPER are the three little words that are setting some Iowa fans off. Could this newspaper be covering stories in a town like Cedar Rapids or Waterloo or even Dubuque?

Let's Look at the Numbers and Make a Quick Guess

Hypothetically, let's assume the creators are shooting for a similar city to Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The population of Scranton is about 76,000 according to the United States Census.

The city of Cedar Rapids has a population of about 137,000 people according to reports. This is well over TWICE the population of the Electric City.

A city in the Hawkeye State that is slightly more similar in size is Waterloo! The home of Iowa Irish Fest has a population of about 67,000.

Is it possible that we might be seeing characters get some after work drinks at SingleSpeed or grab lunch at Jameson's?

Waterloo could be a good contender for the new spinoff.

What We Know So Far

There aren't too many details that have been made public about the show.

Officials confirmed that production on the spinoff series will begin sometime in July.

In addition, the two leads of the show have already been cast. Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore are set to lead the show's ensemble.

Key players from the original series are set to be returning. Most of these individuals are from BEHIND the screen.

Greg Daniels developed the beloved NBC series for American television. He along with Michael Koman are co-creators of this new show and will act as the executive producers.

Even some of the creators of the original British version of the show will be back!

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant created this version and will be returning to 'The Office' universe as executive producers, according to reports.

There is no set date that fans should expect to see this new series on their tv screens.

We will keep you updated on the release date when it is made available to the public.
